New Voices for the Theater is the nationally acclaimed statewide high school playwriting competition for Virginia students in grades 9-12 that celebrates and cultivates young writing talent from across Virginia. This program provides a life-changing opportunity for high school writers to work with professional playwrights, actors, and other theatre artists.

Working closely with Richmond based professional playwright David Roby, eight high school student playwrights from across the Commonwealth will bring their original one-act plays to life on the stage at the 30th Annual New Voices for the Theater Festival of New Works, held July 12 & 13, 2019 at Grace Street Theater at Virginia Commonwealth University (934 W. Grace St). 136 plays were submitted to SPARC this year and eight resident winners and one honorable mention were chosen.
