TheatreLAB presents re-imagined classic, A Doll’s House, starring Katrinah Carol Lewis and Landon Nagel
TheatreLAB, Richmond’s home for unexpected and evocative performance, is proud to present Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, starring local favorites, Katrinah Carol Lewis and Landon Nagel. The production is the second show in TheatreLAB’s 2018/2019 Season, “In Pursuit of Happiness,” and will run December 6-22 at The Basement.
The slamming of the front door at the end of Ibsen’s delicate and electrifying play shatters the romantic masquerade of Nora and Torvald’s marriage, where they have deceived themselves and each other into thinking they are happy. Ibsen’s 1879 play shocked its first audiences with its radical insights into the social roles of husband and wife. His portrayal of his flawed heroine, Nora, remains one of the most striking dramatic depictions of late-nineteenth century women. The production features Katrinah Carol Lewis (Nora), Landon Nagel (Torvald), Amber Marie Martinez (Kristine), Jocelyn Honore (Anna), Axle Burtness (Krogstad), and Todd Patterson (Doctor Rank).
From Director, Josh Chenard – “I’m excited to direct this controversial Ibsen classic with the dynamic team of designers and the incredible ensemble of actors we have assembled. I’m particularly excited to be producing this work at TheatreLAB, Richmond’s home of the unexpected and evocative because that is exactly what A Doll’s House is; unexpected, evocative, and powerful. While honoring Ibsen’s wildly relevant text, I am intrigued by moving beyond what we think we know about this story and these people, sticking our creative fingers into their wounds, digging deeper, getting closer to the bone. I want to expose the audience to each character’s secret desires, their primal instincts, their desperation, hopefully shocking modern audiences with the material as much as they were shocked by it over a century ago!”
The production is directed by Josh Chenard, with scenic design by Chris Raintree, lighting design by Erin Barclay, costume design by Ruth Hedberg, sound design by Josh Chenard, properties design by Connor Scudder, assistant direction by Drewe Goldstein, and production stage management by Breezy Potter.
Seating is limited and ticket prices range from $10-30. There will be a special low-priced preview performance on December 6 with Opening Night on December 7. Tickets are now on sale at TheatreLABrva.org.
