Not for profit performance venue, The Basement, once home to TheatreLAB, reopens with a new mission and a women-led team.
The Basement, located at the corner of 3rd and East Broad, reopens Nov 3, 2023. In its new iteration, The Basement is a not for profit rental performance & visual arts venue dedicated to providing a safe space for creativity and exploration across the entire arts spectrum with an emphasis on engaging new audiences for artists through community nurturing. The theatre and art gallery will support artists by giving them subsidized workspace and 100% of their own profits.
The team is led by Artistic Director McLean Fletcher, one of TheatreLAB’s original company members, also an actor, director and painter. The speakeasy themed cocktail bar and lounge will be managed by Mercedes Benson, the Director of Bar and Facilities. Brianne Oltermann White rounds out the team as the Director of Finances and Administration.
With the next two months already fully booked and 2024 on the horizon, the space will serve as a home for local and touring theatre companies, jazz and other musical performances, comedy, burlesque, figure drawing classes, visual art shows and more.
