SYNOPSIS: The merry murderesses of Cook County Jail will be slaying audiences in the heat of the summer in Kander and Ebb’s Tony Award-winning hit, Chicago. Set in the “razzle dazzle” of the roaring twenties, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart vie for the spotlight in search of fame, fortune, and acquittal in one of the greatest dance musicals of all time.
REHEARSALS BEGIN: the week of May 25th 2020
PERFORMANCE RUN: June 26 to August 9th 2020
ROXIE HART -30-40. Innocent, sexy, desperate, selfish. Roxie never thinks about the consequences of her actions before she says or does anything. Every move is selfish, every idea foolish, and yet she remains strangely sympathetic due to her hope and naivete. Seeking strong triple threat performer – must attend dance call.
VELMA KELLY -30-45. Sarcastic, sexy, tough, funny. Velma is a former vaudeville performer. Guilty of killing her husband and sister after finding them together. Seeking strong triple threat performer – must attend dance call.
BILLY FLYNN -35-60. Persuasive, manipulative, and commanding. Billy is a suave, educated lawyer who can convince anyone to do anything. He loves money. If the facts don’t suit his needs, he’ll simply change them. Seeking strong baritenor with rich vocal quality.
MARY SUNSHINE -Any age. An elegant, serious and sympathetic high-powered gossip columnist. Seeking Male countertenor to convincingly play female character.
*The roles of Mama Morton and Amos are cast.
MALE and FEMALE ENSEMBLE – 20s-30s, ANY ETHNICITY. Must be strong dancers with solid jazz technique. Strong singers and actors a plus.

WHAT TO PREPARE
For the dance audition, character shoes/dance sneakers only, no street shoes or socks.
Those auditioning are asked to prepare (1) 32-bar musical theatre selection in the style of the show. Material from the show is acceptable. The selection should showcase the vocal range of the roles for which you would like to be considered.
Be sure to bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided.
For the roles of Mary Sunshine and Billy Flynn, sides will be provided.
