SYNOPSIS: Based on L.Frank Baum’s classic 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Set to the sounds of R&B, soul and pop, this Tony Award-winning musical follows Dorothy and her friends as they “Ease on Down” the yellow brick road.
Rehearsals begin: May 21, 2019
Performance run: June 21 – July 28, 2019

Consummate triple threats.
The following characters are people of color: i.e. African American, African, Afro Latino, Afro-Hispanic, Blatino, Bi-racial or Multicultural descent and cultural origin are especially encouraged to audition.
DOROTHY (18+, believable as 13-17, female) A clever young woman from the heartland of Kansas who has a big and innocent heart, indomitable spirit, and a one of a kind voice. Must have a bright personality and have vocal flexibility. Mezzo-soprano.
SCARECROW (20s, ADULT male) Excellent dancer with a warm and winning spirit. An energetic free-wheeling enthusiastic lovable young man who is tired of the prospect of not going anywhere. He is game for adventure. A man made of straw, in search of a brain. Tenor.
TIN MAN (Age Flexible, ADULT male) A man made of tin. A singer who can dance who joins the journey in search of a heart. Baritone.
LION (Age Flexible, ADULT male) a cowardly lion, in search of some courage. A larger than life performer with consummate comic timing. Classically trained sound. High Baritenor.
GLINDA (20s-60s, female) The Good Witch of the South. The confident, kind, gracious and ostensibly good witch. Admired by all. Alto. R&B style.
ADDAPERLE (20-60s, female) The Good Witch of the North. A scatterbrained trickster with excellent comic timing. Mezzo-soprano with strong pop/R&B sound.
EVILENE (20s-60s, female) The horrid and hilarious villain. Alto.
AUNT EM (20-60s, female) Dorothy’s aunt. A strong woman with a clear moral compass. She loves her family very much.
UNCLE HENRY/GATEKEEPER (Age Flexible, ADULT male) Dorothy’s uncle. A strong man who works with his hands.
THE WIZ (20-40s, male or female) theatrical and charismatic person behind the curtain. Giant, larger than life energy and persona. Powerful rock tenor.

WHAT TO PREPARE
Those auditioning are asked to prepare (1) 32-bar contemporary musical theater selection or pop song. Material from the show is acceptable. The vocal cut should showcase the vocal range of the roles for which you would like to be considered.
Be sure to bring sheet music in your key. An accompanist will be provided.
