Chamberlayne Actors Theatre – Auditions – The Wild Women of Winedale

By | August 25, 2019

Chamberlayne Actors Theatre will conduct auditions for The Wild Women of Winedale by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.

Auditions will be Sunday, September 29 and Monday, September 30 by appointment only at the theatre (319 North Wilkinson Road, Henrico).

The Wild Women of Winedale runs from December 6 – 21, 2019. Three feisty and fun-loving women have supported and cheered one another through life’s highs and lows through the years. And they really need each other now as Fanny experiences a hilariously inappropriate reaction to her 60th birthday while Willa is so stressed out from her nursing job she resorts to vodka and speed-knitting to cope and Johnnie Faye, determined to put her year of fraught widowhood behind her, desperately tries to find a man. These women’s lives are further upended by the responsibility of caring for their free-spirited, ailing aunt and the realization that they are drowning under loads of family keepsakes and possessions nobody wants—especially them!

Director Amy Berlin is seeking to cast 1 to 2 women, age 40 or over, who can play multiple, distinct characters. (Please note that the roles of Fanny, Willa, and Johnny Faye are precast.)

DOREEN – a dynamic older woman who was the first female partner in the one-hundred-year history of her law firm.

BETTY – a woman in her 40’s whose clothes and hair are slightly disheveled as the overwhelmed mother of two sets of twins.

NORA – a spirited woman in her 50’s who takes her historical portrayal very seriously in the candle-making shop in Colonial Williamsburg.

EDITH – a conservatively dressed, mild-mannered, middle-aged woman who is looking for some meaning in her life.

All actors will be paid. To schedule an appointment, please contact cat@cattheatre.com. These distinct characters each have a monologue as they are interviewed through the course of the play. The sides of these monologues will be available to those who have scheduled an appointment, and can also be found on the “Auditions” tab of www.cattheatre.com.
