SUMMER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS

MEDIA, MEMES, MORE WORKSHOP
Presented by RPAA

This two-week workshop addresses the question “who am I?” by blending journalism and video to produce blogs, websites, videos and other multi-platform technologies to create an online presence. The journey to reaching these goals includes exploring individual perceptions, questions of ethics and unique language constructs while tapping into and inspiring creativity, writing skills and video skills. A professional media writer, editor, videographer and additional guests will lead rising 6th through 12th-grade students through all aspects of digital storytelling. The camp runs weekdays July 10-14and July 17-21. Classes will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Genworth BrightLights Education Center located on the third floor of Dominion Arts Center: 600 E.Grace Street, Richmond, Virginia. Registration for the camp is $400.

FILM PRODUCTION PROJECT
Presented by RPAA and Cadence Theatre Company

Film Production Project, presented by RPAA and Cadence Theatre Company, gives rising 6th through 12th-grade students the opportunity to learn the art of visual storytelling by writing, filming and acting in original short films, including a wide array of formats such as documentaries, narratives and music videos. From pre-production planning and script writing to acting for the camera, shooting, editing and output, this two-week project is perfect for today’s media-savvy youth. Professional filmmakers and actors will lead students through all aspects of movie making. No prior experience is necessary. The camp runs weekdays August 14-25. Classes will be held 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.in the Genworth BrightLights Education Center located on the third floor of Dominion Arts Center: 600 E.Grace Street, Richmond, Virginia. Registration for the camp is $450.

CAMP CARNIVAL
Presented by RPAA, Puppets Off Broad Street and
Host of Sparrows Aerial Circus

No need to run away and join the circus when you can be part of Camp Carnival, a two-week circus and puppetry arts camp for students ages 9-15. This is a unique opportunity to explore the worlds of circus and puppetry together! Try your hand at aerial arts, clowning, juggling, stilt walking and hooping! Unleash your imagination with puppets, and learn how to make them! This camp provides a taste of both worlds with the option to focus on one area or both. Life is a Carnival at this unique, first-of-its-kind-camp in Richmond. The camp runs weekdays August 14-25. Classes will be held 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. at Dominion Arts Center: 600 E.Grace Street, Richmond, Virginia. Registration for the camp is $450.
