Description:This position would likely teach two levels of Acting(II & IV), Introduction/Foundations of Theatre, Playwriting/Directing, and Senior Project.Opportunities for classes based around other specialty areas are possible as well.The applicant should have an extensive knowledge of the theatre and experience in both academic as well as professional theatre.
Essential Job Functions:
Duties include directing a minimum of one show each year.
Overseeing and/or directing the department’s entry in the Virginia Theatre Association (VTA) short play competition.
Collaborate with the rest of the Theatre Arts Department faculty for continued growth and development of the program and its activities.
Plans and delivers appropriate curriculum content to students.
Assesses students’ learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
Collaborates with other faculty in planning and delivering instruction to students.
Communicates regularly with parents.
Demonstrate commitment to improving professional competence.
Perform other duties as established by the Governing Board Policy.
After School Requirements:The position requires conducting rehearsals after school, and occasionally on weekends, for the mains stage production, Playwriting/Directing, and Senior Project as well as chaperoning the VTA (Virginia Theatre Association) Conference in October.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger; reach with hands and arms; handle paper files, records, computer and equipment controls; talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk and sit. May be required to use crisis prevention or intervention techniques. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,distance vision, and peripheral vision.
Work Environment: Work is performed in a public school. The noise level in the work environment varies.

Requires general knowledge of academic curriculum for assigned classes.
Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals, to design and deliver instruction and to assess students’ learning.

Demonstrates skills in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning.
Demonstrates flexibility in areas of responsibility.
Salary is determined by a standardized scale commiserate with experience.
Requirements: Education, training or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and completion of an approved program in secondary education. Applicants should currently possess a Virginia Department of Education teaching license or be willing to work toward receiving one within the first three years of employment. Further, applicants should be willing to work toward a gifted add on endorsement within the first five years of employment. Applicants with a terminal degree are encouraged to apply.
