The Pork Rind Serial Killer – Local Playwright

Hi. My name is Alex Grant and I live in Chesapeake, Virginia. I’ve written a musical play called The Pork Rind Serial Killer. It’s about a Reese Witherspoon-type girl singer from North Carolina named Mary Anna who just can’t seem to be able to stay with her boyfriends once they fall head-over-heels in love with her. It is said that she is guilty of committing eleven murders. She admits only to shooting number eleven. It is set in 60’s and 70’s coffeehouses and can be simply produced with one woman and one man. Mary Anna and her men friends songs drive the story and are a mix of several styles of music.

They capture the innocence of the time and the intensity of love shown by her spurned lovers.

This is a play about Redemption. A woman who can’t understand that some men feel pain too. When she becomes a victim of their infidelity, she starts to punish them for their crimes. She becomes faithful (faithful to the concept of “staying with one man above all others”) then suffers the indignity again of a cheating man and once again punishes him. In the end, SHE becomes unfaithful to a man; suffers the ultimate pain of guilt and ends her life by her own hand. This is her redemption.
