Virginia Rep’s Artistic Director Nathaniel Shaw Announces 2017/18 Season

By | April 1, 2017

New Artistic Director, Nathaniel Shaw, on selecting his first season at Virginia Rep:

“The 17/18 season travels from the theaters of Elizabethan London, to a Chicago subdivision in the 1950’s, to the banks of America’s mightiest river, and to the blistering hot streets of Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan. We spend an evening with a groundbreaking humorist, and share laughter and tears with the Magrath sisters in Mississippi. We walk alongside a young girl from Southern Los Angeles as she journeys to the National Spelling Bee and dance on rooftops with chimney sweeps.

The Cadence Season, co-produced by Virginia Rep and Cadence Theatre Company, subverts tradition in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins examination of family, explores the social force of contemporary Christianity, and includes a ground-breaking Tony Award- Winning musical that is so hot off the presses we can’t discuss it yet.

The 2017/18 Season takes you on a journey far and wide, spanning hundreds of years, yet asks you questions and examines issues we are all confronting right now.”
