Thank you for your interest in Richmond Triangle Players’ productions. We have important change to that programming to share with you. Richmond Triangle Players will proudly open its 33rd season as the longest-running LGBTQ+ theatre in the Mid-Atlantic region with Matthew Lombardo’s acclaimed new comedy Conversations with Mother, which will play at RTP’s Robert, B. Moss Theatre from September 10 – October 4, 2025. The play recently ended its off-Broadway this past April. RTP’s production will mark its first production outside of New York. RTP is grateful to the playwright and to Broadway Licensing for making this production possible. This production replaces the previously announced Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors, which has been postponed indefinitely due to the tragic death of the actor slated to play the title character. Performance dates and times are exactly the same; only the play itself has changed. “It’s been a very difficult few weeks for the Richmond theatre community,” said RTP artistic director Lucian Restivo. “We just didn’t feel we could move forward without our planned Dracula, Adam Turck. We will, of course, dedicate this new production to his memory and hope he will shine down on it.” Conversations with Mother is the heartwarming and hilarious new play by Matthew Lombardo who wrote Who’s Holiday and High, huge successes for RTP in seasons’ past. The semi-autobiographical comedy traces the relationship between Italian matriarch Maria Collavechio (played by Sara Heifetz) and her gay son (Daniel Daigle) spanning the course of five decades. As they continue to test their lifelong bond, the play depicts the outrageously funny and sometimes completely infuriating dynamic between a conventional mother and her free-spirited son. RTP’s production is directed by acclaimed actor/director Deejay Gray, returning for the first time to Richmond since his award-winning performance in The Inheritance. Gray will also design the set. “This show is the big hug that the community needs right now,” he stated. The rest of the creative team is made up of Amber Martinez (Costume Design), Weston Corey (Lighting Design), Kelsey Cordrey (Sound Design), Lucian Restivo (Projections Design), Luke Newsome (Hair and Makeup Design) and Tim Moehring (Properties Design). Assistant Director is Juliana Caycedo, and Production Stage Manager is Kayla Brown. Conversations with Mother opens Friday September 12, 2025, at 8 pm, following low-priced previews on Wednesday and Thursday, September 10 & 11 at 8 pm. Performances run Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8 pm through October, with Sunday matinees at 4 pm and a Pay What You Will performance on Wednesday evening October 1 at 8 pm. RTP’s famous Bar None will be open before the show featuring special Virginia Spirits cocktails as well as its acclaimed new wine menu, curated by sommelier Jessee Bowers. Richmond Triangle Players’ 2025-26 season is made possible through the generous support of the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, The Shubert Foundation, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. |
