AUDITIONS: “The Miracle Worker: – Swift Creek Mill Theatre

Casting for Adult Roles – Monday, November 17, 7 P.M.

Director John Moon is seeking actors ( 4w, 3m) for William Gibson’s Tony Award-winning drama about the remarkable relationship that develops between young blind an deaf Helen Keller and her teacher, Annie Sullivan.

Auditions will be Monday, November 17, between 7 and 10 P.M., at Swift Creek Mill Theatre, 17401 Route One, South Chesterfield, VA 23834. (Wednesday, November 19, may also be available for overflow)

Actors should be available not only for evening and weekend performances, but also for some 10:15 A.M. student matinees and some 2:30 P.M. matinees on select Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Note: Auditions for the children’s roles (Helen, Martha and Percy) will be held separately).

Adult roles being cast:

  • Annie Sullivan (early 20’s): Helen’s fiercely determined teacher. Half-blind herself, she takes on the challenge of educating Helen against all odds.
  • Captain Arthur H. Keller (40’s): Helen’s father, often unclear about how to support Annie’s efforts. He struggles between hope and despair regarding Helen’s future.
  • Kate Keller (early 30’s): Helen’s mother, desperate to help her daughter. She begins to believe in Annie’s methods and potential for success.
  • James Keller (18-20: Helen’s half-brother from a previous marriage who feels overlooked. His frustration and cynicism reflect the family’s challenges and misunderstandings.
  • Aunt Ev (40’s): Arthur’s sister and Helen’s aunt, she is often at odds with Annie’s methods to reach Helen.
  • Michael Anagnos (50’s): Director of the Perkins School for the Blind, he helped to restore most of Annie’s sight and encourages her to take on the role of Helen’s teacher. (This role will also double as the Doctor at the start of the play)
  • Viney (30-40): An African-American servant in the Keller household and very protective of young Helen, she has two children, Percy and Martha.

Those auditioning for these roles are asked to prepare a 1-2 minute modern dramatic monologue. You may also be asked to read from the script.

The Miracle Worker will run from January 29 – February 21, 2026, and all roles are paid.
