Direct from Broadway to RTP!

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Richmond Triangle Players by spending a loverly time with the star of Broadway’s Aladdin and RTP alumnus, Michael Schimmele (The View UpStairs). You’ll relive love and romance listening to songs all the way from the classics to your favorite Broadway shows — with some cheeky surprises along the way.

Michael began his theatrical career at the age of five as Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz in his basement. He followed his passion for performing all the way to The St. Louis MUNY where he appeared in shows such as ShowBoat (starring Gary Beach & Georgia Engel), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (starring Liz Callaway), Spamalot (Directed & Choregraphed by Tony nominee Denis Jones), Mary Poppins, and many more!

Michael pursued a degree in Music Theatre from Elon University. Michael had the opportunity to play a wide variety of roles in shows including CATS, Parade, Hello, Dolly! (choreographed by Michael Jablonski), Oklahoma!, In the Heights, Working, Chicago, and appeared as a non-binary St. Jimmy in American Idiot (directed by Lynne Formato.) While still in school, Michael appeared in the regional premiere (at RTP!) of the Off-Broadway musical The View UpStairs as Freddy. Recently, Michael appeared in RENT at the Paper Mill Playhouse where he understudied RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Olivia Lux as Angel.

Michael has performed at professional theaters all over the country such as Paper Mill Playhouse, Pioneer Theatre Company, North Carolina Theatre, STAGES St. Louis and even had the honor of singing at the DNC’s LGBTQ+ Gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, conducted and directed by Broadway composer, Andrew Lippa. Michael is a passionate performer and hopes to continue representing people of color and artists of all shapes and sizes through his work.
