AUDITION NOTICE: REMEMBER THE LADIES!

The St. John’s Church Foundation announces auditions for its first-ever all-woman production of the Liberty or Death Reenactment, featuring Patrick Henry’s famous words “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death”! Using the same script as the reenactment that has been regularly performed for over fifty years, the Foundation is excited to produce this show in November 2025, in pandemic-delayed recognition of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, and in the 250th anniversary year of the Second Virginia Convention.

Director Maggie Roop seeks nine adult women of any age, ethnicity, or race for these roles: Patrick Henry, Peyton Randolph, Edmund Pendleton, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Nelson, Benjamin Harrison, Richard Henry Lee, and Robert Carter Nicholas. All actors are paid; rates are $55-85 per show depending on role.

Auditions will be held by appointment inside the Parish Hall at St. John’s Church, 2401 East Broad Street, Richmond VA 23223, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in 30 minute slots from 12-4PM.

Rehearsal Dates: NOV 10-13, 7-10PM. Other rehearsal times may be arranged by the director.

Performance Dates:

  • FRI NOV 14 @7PM
  • SAT NOV 15 @7PM
  • SUN NOV 16 @1:30PM
  • FRI NOV 21 @7PM

All auditioning actors must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates as noted above. The above rehearsals and all performances will be held at St. John’s Church.

Actors should prepare to read the side and be available for other readings solo or in groups during their assigned 30 minute slot.
