AUDITIONS: “Little Women” – Goochland Community Theatre

Goochland Community Theatre is thrilled to present Little Women, adapted by Gary Peterson and based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, as the first show of our 2025-2026 season. Show dates are September 26-28, 2025.

We are looking to cast 5 Women and 5 Men over the age of 18. We especially need actors to fill our male roles!

We are casting the following characters:

Meg March: The oldest March sister
Age range: Early 20s – Early 30s, needs to play as young as 16
Personality: Maternal, responsible, a little vain, dreams of a traditional family

Amy March: The youngest March sister
Age range: Early 20s – Early 30s, needs to play as young as 11
Personality: Artistic with dreams of greatness, fussy, impulsive, emotional, the baby of the family

Margaret “Marmee” March: The family matriarch
Age range: 40s-50s
Personality: Nurturing, wise, giving, leads her family with gentle inner strength

Mr. March: The family patriarch
Age range: 40s-50s
Personality: A family man, strong beliefs, supportive/steady, is away with the Union army for much of the play

Aunt March: The girls’ rich widow aunt
Age range: 60s-70s
Personality: Prickly, scrutinous, bold, cares (in her own, non-traditional way), independent

Theodore “Laurie” Laurence: The wealthy boy next door
Age range: Early 20s – Early 30s, needs to play as young as 15
Personality: Fun, energetic, shows his feelings, friend and “brother” to the girls, eventually marries Amy

John Brooke: Laurie’s tutor
Age range: Early 20s – Early 30s
Personality: Speaks with English accent, responsible, hard-working, traditional, eventually marries Meg

Professor Friedrich Bhaer: German immigrant professor
Age range: Mid 20s – 40s
Personality: Speaks with German accent, highly educated, reserved, kind, eventually marries Jo

Mr. Laurence: Laurie’s grandfather
Age range: 60s-70s
Personality: Generous, stern but not unkind, has a soft side, paternal

Hannah: The March family’s cook
Age range: Any age above mid-20s
Personality: Another maternal figure for the girls, honest, authoritative

The actors playing Meg, Amy, and Laurie must play the characters as both children and adults.

About the Show: Little Women follows the lives of the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, from childhood to adulthood during the American Civil War era. It highlights their individual journeys as they navigate family life, friendships, love, and personal growth, all while facing the challenges of a war-torn nation.

**Please Note: The roles of Jo and Beth March have been precast.**

Auditions: Tuesday July 8th and Wednesday July 9th at 6:30 at Central High Cultural and Educational Center – 2748 Dogtown Rd, Goochland, VA 23063. You are only required to come to one day of auditions.

Invited callbacks: Thursday July 10th at 6:30 at Central High Cultural and Educational Center. Actors who are called back will be notified via email.

Virtual auditions: Actors should record one dramatic and one comedic monologue of their choosing, each 1-2 minutes in length. Virtual auditions should be submitted to the directors no later than July 9.
